Is It Time To Spring Clean Your Website?
Is it time to spring clean your website?
As the mercury rises and the natural world springs to life, we’re often seized by the desire to clean, reorganize, and purge. This year why not extend your spring cleaning efforts to your company’s website? Just apply some of the following web-worthy Windex and your site will sparkle and shine in no time.
Fix anything broken or out of date. This includes links that don’t work, 404 error pages, and content that is no longer relevant (such as events that have passed, bios of employees who no longer work for your company, discontinued products and services, etc.). These all hinder your search engine rankings, frustrate site visitors, and make your company appear out of date and unprofessional. Good riddance!
Review progress. Take a look at your Google Analytics report for the last year and note the most popular content, major sources of traffic, and visitor demographics. Is there any actionable insight you can glean? Also review your current keyword rankings in major search engines and assess whether or not you are coming up for desired keywords, and where you would like to improve.
Assess your site’s usability. Does your homepage immediately engage users and guide them to the information they need? Does it load in under 3 seconds? Can visitors access your content easily via mobile devices? Conducting a usability analysis will give you a road map for making your customers’ onsite experience as fluid as possible, which will in turn improve your bottom line.
Make a plan and take action. Once you’ve taken care of the low hanging fruit and assessed progress and usability, it’s time to get down and dirty. While some sites just need light sweep, others require a more in-depth remodel. Will a fresh coat of paint in the form of a homepage refresh do the trick? Or does your site require something more substantial, such as a full redesign or content management system implementation? Decide what needs to be done, roll up your sleeves and get going.
If the thought of tackling these digital dust bunnies solo feels a bit overwhelming, never fear! Give us a shout and we’ll get your site ready for spring in no time!
