Mobile Optimization the Simple Way
Last year web searches on mobile surpassed desktop for the first time. For most of us this was no surprise and there is no doubt that mobile will continue to widen this gap. So, what are you doing to ensure that your website is optimized for mobile?
Mobile optimization is about ease of use for our smartphone friends, all 3.4 Billion of them. Let’s make it easy for them to find your site, navigate the content, and convert into a customer.
Finding your site:
Google made an algorithm change last year, Mobilegeddon, that took into account mobile friendliness for keyword rankings. This means your site needs to be responsive, load quickly, and the user has to be able to navigate the website so don’t put links too close together! Without this your site will not receive the rankings it deserves.
Navigating the content:
Okay, so the pageviewer makes it to your website but now what? Make the navigation responsive – alter the behavior and content based on the screen width and device. Ensure that all phone numbers are click to call and that form input types trigger the correct keyboard. How much easier is it to fill out a phone number if the numeric keyboard is showing? Easy win!
Convert, Convert, Convert:
Make sure that whatever you want the pageviewer to do is apparent and visible. If you want them to call - keep the phone number in a sticky header or footer so that the pageviewer doesn’t have to search for it. Maybe your website promotes a form fill – again put a call to action that is noticeable, always apparent, and easy to click. Don’t make it hard for someone to become your customer!
